Trump, in farewell address, says movement ‘only just beginning’

On his final full day in office, US President Donald Trump hails the ‘achievements’ of his ‘America First’ platform. US President Donald Trump has released a farewell video, touting what he described as the success of his “America First” platform and telling his supporters that “the movement we started is only just beginning”. Trump, who has maintained his false claims that November’s presidential election was “stolen” from him amid widespread voter fraud, described himself on Tuesday as “the only true outsider ever to win the presidency”. Shortly before the release of Trump’s farewell message, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the rioters were “fed lies” and “provoked by the president and other powerful people”. “As I conclude my term as the 45th president of the United States, I stand before you truly proud of what we have achieved together.” Trump also hailed the pre-pandemic US economy and the rate of development of a COVID-19 vaccine under his administration’s Operation Warp Speed, as well as his crackdown on undocumented immigrants and normalisation deals between Israel and Arab states.
