Covid scare rocks the England cricket team after positive test during third Ashes test

The Ashes were in jeopardy on Sunday night after a Covid outbreak in the England camp, with four positive members of the touring party - two support staff and two family members - testing positive for the virus only hours before the start of play on the second day of the third Test at the MCG. With speculation swirling that the game might go the way of the fifth Test at Old Trafford this summer, which was postponed when India pulled out citing Covid concerns, it emerged that the tests administered to England's players had all come back negative, and they were on their way to the ground. The England camp are waiting on Covid test results following positives in the family group Two players not involved in this Test - Stuart Broad and Craig Overton - stayed back at the hotel, though were not deemed close contacts. Joe Root's men had to wait for negative lateral flow tests before continuing onto the MCG Meanwhile, the fifth Test is due to take place at Hobart in Tasmania, which has operated tighter restrictions than either Victoria or New South Wales, The cancellation of any of the remaining three games would entail a multi-million dollar loss for Cricket Australia.
