Declassify Netaji files, kin to tell Modi in Germany

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to meet Surya Bose, grandnephew of freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, on Monday during the Germany leg of his three-nation tour. In Germany the highlight of Mr. Modi’s visit was the joint inauguration of the Hannover Fair along with Chancellor Angela Merkel on Sunday; India is the partner nation for the fair for this year. Mr. Modi’s meeting with Mr. Surya Bose comes in the midst of a raging controversy after recently declassified Intelligence Bureau documents revealed that the former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had spied on the family of Bose for two decades from 1948 to 1968 both in India and abroad. “He has sought time with the Prime Minister and if he gets a chance, he will raise the issue of declassification… He will present the cause of not only the family but of the country,” Chandra Kumar Bose, grandnephew of Subhas Chandra Bose and brother of Surya Bose, told The Hindu.
