Manipur BJP MLA on Jiribam violence: 'Fix accountability of cops'

A feeling of security and peace remains elusive even after more than a year of violence in the north-eastern state of Manipur since ethnic clashes erupted in May 2023. Demanding stern action against the top police officers of the state, BJP MLA and son-in-law of chief minister, Rajkumar Imo Singh said, "We have top police officials heading the intelligence wing in our state. Intelligence input on January 15- The input accessed by India Today, was sent by the secretary of the chief minister to the director General of Police, chief secretary and the DC/SP of Jiribam. Intelligence input on January 27- India Today has accessed another letter written by the secretary to the chief minister of Manipur, to the director General of Police, chief secretary of Manipur and the security advisor of Manipur which says "In view of the incident of gunfire reported in Jiribam considering reports of moments of armed miscreants from Churachandpur towards Vangai range bordering areas of Jiribam, the DGP is requested to take measures to prompt spread of the current law and order situation to Jiribam district and to take up the effective countermeasures including domination of strategic locations using Central forces and the state forces. Third input on January 31- Another report from the chief minister's office was sent to the advisor of security and director General of Police of Manipur on January 31, saying the report was received about the possibility of an attempt to loot arms and ammunition of 7th IRB located in the Bombay district, police department is requested to take all necessary steps in this regard.
