Children as victims of the pandemic

PM-CARES scheme On May 29, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced ‘PM-CARES for Children’, a scheme to support children who lost their parents to COVID-19. On June 8, the apex court bench directed State governments and Union Territories to ensure that there was no break in the education of orphaned children and those who lost one parent to COVID. In a policy brief on “Rights of Children in the Time of Covid-19”, HAQ said that restrictions imposed by the lockdown deprived several groups of children and families of their right to a dignified life.
