Fantastical flying beasts
China DailyA bronze dragon head, unearthed from the Sanxingdui Site in Guanghan, Sichuan province, from late Shang Dynasty. For example, the dragon pieced together from clam shells dating to about 6,300 years ago, was found at the Caitaopo Site in Chifeng, Inner Mongolia last year. Unlike the jade pig-dragon of the late Hongshan Culture period, which has a curled body, this one seems to be elongated, filling in a gap in early Hongshan dragon imagery," says Guo. "This is the only example of this form of dragon found so far, and we haven't been able to determine what it was used for," says Guo. "I had never seen so many artifacts with dragon elements brought together in the past," says Wang Mingda, a veteran archaeologist who worked at Liangzhu for decades.
