Pioneer Antarctic explorer Douglas Mawson's return marked 100 years on

ABC

The work of Australia's Antarctic pioneer Sir Douglas Mawson is being celebrated, a century after he returned from the frozen continent. The perilous journey claimed two lives but Mawson returned to Adelaide two years later with a wealth of new scientific information. The University of Tasmania's Tony Press says the data collected is still considered relevant today. "What we do in Antarctica is firmly rooted in what Douglas Mawson did 100 years ago."
