Post-chemotherapy dying cancer cells can turn healthy cells cancerous, finds Tata Memorial Centre study
India TV NewsAs per a study conducted by the Tata Memorial Centre in Mumbai, during chemotherapy and radiotherapy, dying cancer cells produce cell-free chromatin particles that have the potential to transform healthy cells into malignant ones. Drugs or other agents that deactivate and destroy cell-free chromatin particles generated by treated, dying cancer cells may need to be included in cancer treatment protocols, according to a study conducted by TMC's Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research, and Education. According to the study, dying cancer cells release cell-free chromatin particles which can turn healthy cells into cancerous ones. The recent study examined whether chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or surgery, which generate dying cancer cells, could contribute to the cancer's metastatic spread.
