The global trend Albanese needs to beat to win
ABCSam Hawley: Hi, it's Sam Hawley here. Sam Hawley: So, let's look, Mark, at whether this is just a blip or a longer-lasting trend, because inflation will come down, it already is. Mark Kenny: I think there's a number of things that are going to happen at once. I think your question is right, there is an ongoing concern about the state of democracy, the role of institutions, whether the systems that we've had set up effectively since the Second World War have served populations well and are fit for purpose, and whether everyone feels that they are incorporated within them, and there's a real sense of people having been left behind. There is a real sense that there is an analogy with the Second World War, and there's also an analogy, I think, with the early period before the First World War, when there's a lot of instability and a lot of unpredictability around what alliances will hold and there are new alliances forming, and of course, you know, a great deal of, again, economic dislocation and disruption.
