A self-employed mother-of-one has moved her family to Mauritius to be able to spend more time with her two-year-old son in the hope of avoiding 'mum guilt'. Annabel Fenwick Elliott, 37, a freelance journalist, became self-employed after deciding that she didn't want her son, Jasper, to grow up in day care like her friend's children. Annabel Fenwick Elliott, her husband Julius, and their two-year-old son Jasper, moved to Mauritius for a 'better lifestyle' which she could 'never afford' in the UK Annabel said: 'I didn't want to have to put Jasper in day care. Annabel, who had been living in a 'tiny' studio flat in London, traded the grey skies of the UK for island life Annabel was spurred on in her decision to move after her son Jasper was born and she went freelance so she could spend more time with him Annabel revealed she didn't want Jasper to grow up 'in day care' like some of her friend's children Now that she lives in Mauritius, Annabel is able to spend more time outside with her son and says that they go to the beach 'every day' Annabel's 'tiny' studio flat in London was costing her £1,200 per month, and after giving birth to Jasper she moved out of the city to stay with a friend in Essex with the intention 'to settle in the UK'. Annabel said she feels 'so lucky' to have her new lifestyle and cannot imagine being able to match it in the UK Now, Annabel takes in stunning sea views every day from her four bedroom home after moving to the island in the Indian Ocean The cheaper costs in Mauritius mean that Annabel can work from home and spend more time with her son, while earning some extra cash and keeping a London base by renting out her studio flat.
