Indian government taking up T.N. fishermen issue with Pakistan, says Jaishankar
The HinduThe Government of India was awaiting consular access to 14 Indian fishermen from Tamil Nadu, who were presently in a Pakistan prison, Minister for External Affairs S. Jaishankar has informed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. In his reply to Mr. Stalin’s communication last month requesting to secure the release of 14 TN fishermen from Pakistan, Mr. Jaishankar the matter has been taken up with the Government of Pakistan but consular access was yet to be provided. “Our High Commission in Islamabad continues to seek early consular access for the 14 fishermen and has requested Pakistan to ensure their safety, security and well-being until they are repatriated to India,” Mr. Jaishankar said. The 14 fishermen on board two boats Shri Vraj Bhumi’ and ‘Mandeep’ were arrested by Pakistan in January this year and in November, Mr. Stalin wrote to the Union government requesting to secure their release.
