Nobody who read Nadine Dorries’s beautiful account of her husband’s death in yesterday’s Scottish Daily Mail could fail to be moved by her story. Dame Esther Rantzen has spoken out in favour of assisted dying ‘In our last moments, when he was awake, I sat on his bed and sang to him – Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now,’ Nadine wrote. Only a few weeks ago, Dame Esther Rantzen, now suffering from terminal stage 4 lung cancer, spoke bravely in support of assisted dying, saying she wanted the right to choose when to end her life. I think what will be billed initially as an ‘option’ of death for terminally ill people will inevitably slip into something close to an expectation.
