Israel launches fresh airstrikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon, ceasefire hangs in balance
FirstpostSmoke rises above Lebanon following an Israeli strike, amid ongoing cross-border hostilities between Hezbollah and Israeli forces, on Israel's border with Lebanon. Even though the full-scale war between Israel and Hezbollah has stopped, Israel has continued to conduct sporadic ceasefire inside Lebanon and Hezbollah has also carried out attacks. Even as Israel has rejected the accusations of violating the ceasefire, Defence Minister Israel Katz has said that if the ceasefire with Hezbollah breaks down and war resumes, then Israel would not distinguish between Lebanese forces and Hezbollah personnel. Katz said that Lebanon must “authorise the Lebanese army to enforce their part, to keep Hezbollah away beyond the Litani and to dismantle all the infrastructure”, according to The Times of Israel. Under the terms of the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire, Israeli forces would withdraw south of the ‘Blue Line’, the de facto Israel-Lebanon border, and Hezbollah would withdraw to the north of Litani river within 60 days.
