Calcutta HC orders dismissal of 36,000 teachers, asks govt to make fresh appointments
India TodayJustice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of the Calcutta High Court has ordered the dismissal of 36,000 primary school teachers who were appointed illegally at state- The court on Friday stated that these teachers are inexperienced and therefore not qualified to continue teaching in primary schools. The affected teachers will continue working for the next four months, during which time the state government will have the opportunity to make new appointments to fill these vacancies. Justice Gangopadhyay is currently hearing the school job scam case in Bengal, which has brought to light many irregularities in the appointment of teachers in primary schools. The ED and CBI have arrested former Education Minister Partha Chatterjee along with several top-rung education officials and senior TMC leaders as the two central agencies began probing the allegations of illegal appointments made in the state's schools in exchange of crores for rupees.
