It’s not often in a game like this, one that ends in a lopsided 45-23 score, that you can identify exactly where things were lost. But in Michigan’s beatdown of Ohio State on Saturday in Ohio Stadium, it’s as clear as Ryan Day. It won’t shock him to hear comparisons to John Cooper, the former Ohio State coach who built loaded rosters with a national recruiting strategy — before national recruiting was typical — but tightened up every single time he played Michigan. Last year, Ohio State’s defense was weak and got bullied up front by a Michigan team that had a plan and executed that plan. Last year, Michigan was unequivocally itself and outmuscled Ohio State’s defense.
