James Ward-Prowse is Southampton… so what happens when he leaves?

Nowadays, there are few things Southampton do that make you double-take — but they managed it on Thursday night. As the players came out for the second half against Bournemouth, Alex McCarthy, playing his first league match of the season, wore the captain’s armband. Ruben Selles has not been able to stop Southampton’s slide Selles described his players as “passive” afterwards, unable to take risks with the ball. So it’s not that any issues from outside that are just making the difference or disturbing us in our daily routine.” Although Selles, understandably, disputes broader issues have led to Southampton’s slow puncture of a season, all of this was alarmingly forecast last summer. “Southampton signed 10 players so surely a couple could have been proven, experienced players, just to help the youth,” said one well-placed source close to the first team last summer.
