Don't have enough but...: DK Shivakumar on Cauvery water row
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday said though his state did not have enough water, it would release 10 thousand million cubic feet or 2,831 crore litres of Cauvery water for Tamil Nadu. Last Friday, Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan said the state has no other option but to approach the Supreme Court over Karnataka not releasing the due share of water to the state. Earlier, officials from the Tamil Nadu government walked out of the meeting of Cauvery Water Management Board as Karnataka refused to release the required water, including the shortfall, to Tamil Nadu on a daily basis. Stalin urged PM Modi to instruct Karnataka to release Cauvery water to save the kuruvai paddy crop cultivated by farmers in the Cauvery delta region of Tamil Nadu.
