Pragya says sorry after outrage over Karkare shocker
India TodaySadhvi Pragya Thakur, Bharatiya Janata Party ’s choice for Bhopal the seat that the party has represented for more than 30 years against two-time Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijay Singh, started her election campaign on Friday by maligning 26/11 Mumbai terror attack hero Hemant Karkare’s martyrdom. Pragya Thakur’s attempt to malign Karkare’s martyrdom roused a huge controversy with the IPS officers association and opposition parties condemning the act. Asaduddin Owaisi of the AIMIM called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a king of liars’ while lashing out at Pragya Thakur. Realising the potential of the negative sentiment that Pragya Thakur’s statement generated, the BJP distanced itself from the comment, saying it was her personal view which she might have made due to years of physical and mental torture.
