‘We lived it. And we survived it. I’ll never forget it’: An oral history of the Bills-Colts epic Snowvertime game
New York TimesNote: Article published in November 2019 ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The Bills needed a victory to keep their playoff hopes afloat. Stephen Hauschka, Bills kicker: I remember getting breakfast in the facility, and the snow hadn’t started, but the wind was blowing like crazy outside. Quincy Wilson, Colts defensive back: There was no snow, and then like 20 minutes later it was like, ‘Oh my God.’ You couldn’t see the field. The snow was coming so fast, the grounds crew couldn’t keep up with it, so we knew we were going to have issues all day with what yard line the ball is on. At which point, he said, “I will say this: Since 1986, I’ve watched games here, and I’ve never seen a game in Buffalo with worse conditions.” Dedes: When Steve said that, Arch and I looked at each other, threw our heads back and threw our arms in the air and said, ‘We could do this for another 20 years, and we’ll never experience anything like this again.’ When Steve, who is Mr. Buffalo, says something like that, you know it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
