Miller: An Open Championship preview, Ludvig Aberg’s thrilling start and more
New York TimesIf there was anything made clear Tuesday by the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations hearing and the 266 pages of documents released as part of it, it is that the PGA Tour needs this deal with the PIF to happen, no matter how much Sen. Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut, pleads with it to reconsider. Nine of the top 11 players in the world are in the field, so when you wake up Thursday you might see Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland teeing off or Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele finishing their rounds that started at 2:59 a.m. Plus, you get chances to get introduced to some DP World Tour studs you don’t normally watch — that’s Adrian Meronk and Victor Perez’s music! Min Woo Lee and Thomas Detry were in a playoff in 2021, and neither made the Open cut, and none of last year’s top three were really in the mix at St. Andrews. Ludvig Aberg’s Sunday 63 at the John Deere Classic gave him the first top five of his career. Of course, these weren’t the biggest events, but at the Canadian Open, Travelers Championship, Rocket Mortgage Classic and John Deere Classic, Aberg has gone T25, T24, T40 and T4.
