India TodayLadakh has received a significant proposal from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, offering 95% reservation in government jobs for locals. Thupstan Chhewang, former BJP MP and chairman of the Leh Apex Body, attended the talks and clarified that a separate public service commission for Ladakh would not be feasible due to the lack of a local legislature. FOUR MAJOR DEMANDS In August 2019, the state of Jammu and Kashmir was divided into two union territories: Jammu and Kashmir, with a legislature, and Ladakh, without one. For the past five years, the people of Ladakh have been demanding statehood, inclusion in the Sixth Schedule to grant tribal status, job reservations for locals, and separate parliamentary seats for Leh and Kargil. The HPC chaired by Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai met eight leaders each from the Leh and Kargil regions who represented the Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance respectively.
