Why has the MP government changed Vyapam's name yet again?
Madhya Pradesh’s scam-tainted Professional Examination Board, formerly known as Vyapam, has once again had its name changed—the second time in the past seven years. Informed sources in the government say the name change this year reflects the organisation’s changed responsibilities—the PEB now almost exclusively focuses on holding recruitment tests for the selection of class III and IV employees to various departments in the state government. Sources say that is why the government felt it sensible to further clarify the change in the PEB’s core responsibilities by giving it a new name—the Karamchari Chayan Mandal—since its core role is now to hold recruitment tests for government jobs. “The name change has been done to wipe away the taint acquired by Vyapam during the BJP’s rule,” says Congress spokesperson Bhupendra Gupta.
