No homework for classes 1 and 2, no subject-division till class 5: Experts discuss effect of new HRD directives
The HRD Ministry issued directives on November 26 which state that students of classes 1 and 2 will only study language and maths, while classes 3 to 5 will study languages, maths and EVS. If Indian schools need to follow the new orders by the HRD Ministry, a shift needs to take place in primary education so that young students are prepared accordingly. Beas Dev Ralhan says that the new kind of learning will also ensure that more innovative learning techniques are taken up by schools which can teach students important skills that cramming textbooks cannot build. Teacher training required for coming changes in teaching methodology Since the approach to educating primary school students changes drastically with the new HRD Ministry directives, it would need teachers to be thoroughly updated and trained for using new teaching methods to help young students learn. A heavy school bag could easily do that, with students perceiving subjects, classwork and homework as a burden," Ralhan says, "We certainly don't want that.
