No Aadhaar? You might not be able to obtain a driving licence in future

The Motor Vehicles Bill, 2019 has proposed several major changes that could go a long way in improving road safety, bolstering transportation network, providing last mile connectivity and weeding out corruption from the system. The Motor Vehicles Bill provides for validity of the commercial licences up to five years instead of three years. Introducing the Motor Vehicles Bill in the Rajya Sabha, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari had pointed out that 30 per cent of the driving licences in the country are bogus and a single person is able to acquire as many as four licenses. The Motor Vehicles Bill, 2019, proposes to increase the minimum penalty for a general violation to Rs 500 from the current Rs 100.
