Indian students opt for tech-driven courses in US over engineering
Indian students in the United States are increasingly moving away from traditional engineering courses, favouring computer science and mathematics instead. In the 2023-24 academic year, 24.5 percent of Indian students in the US pursued engineering courses, a significant drop from 29.6 percent in 2021-22. GROWING TREND IN COMPUTER SCIENCE In contrast, computer science and mathematics have witnessed a meteoric rise, with 42.9 percent of Indian students opting for these disciplines in 2023-24. Unlike traditional engineering degrees, which often require specific specialisations, computer science and mathematics provide a broader skill set applicable to industries such as software development, cybersecurity, data analytics, and fintech.
