Manmohan Singh’s death: Karnataka government holiday today, seven-day mourning declared; day two of Belagavi event cancelled

The Karnataka government has announced seven days of mourning following the death of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh late on Thursday. In view of the passing away of Mr. Singh, day two of the centenary of the Belgaum Congress session, which was being celebrated at the border town of Belagavi, stands cancelled, announced KPCC president and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who is also visiting New Delhi to pay his last respects to Mr. Singh, took to X and said: “A statesman of unparalleled wisdom, his leadership and vision left an indelible mark on our nation. His encouragement of our budgetary measures and the influence of landmark UPA policies like the Right to Food Act shaped Karnataka’s progress and welfare initiatives.” The Chief Minister added that Mr. Singh’s legacy will “continue to inspire generations.” The Deputy Chief Minister, who is also leaving for Delhi, said that with Mr. Singh’s death “an era defined by statesmanship, integrity and quiet strength comes to an end.” “His vision for the nation both as the PM and the economic architect during one of its most defining moments truly speak volumes about his resilient leadership,” he further said.
