Surfers continue waiting game as Pipe Pro delay drags on

The wait continues at the World Surf League's Pipe Pro with competition remaining on hold, however more favourable surf conditions are forecast for Hawaii's North Shore. With Stephanie Gilmore and John John Florence stepping down from competition, will the World Surf League's competition be poorer for it? "The swell came with a lot of sand pushing down to the main take-off area at Backdoor, and the quality is not there, neither for barrels nor turns," World Surf League deputy commissioner Renato Hickel said on Monday local time. The 2024 Olympian is in one of the two remaining women's first-round heats with two-time world champion Tyler Wright one of the stand-outs in early action.
