INS Tushil to bolster India's naval power amid expanding defence diplomacy
India TodayAmidst India negotiating with France to build three additional Scorpene-class submarines and advancing a programme for six next-generation submarines in collaboration with Germany or Spain, the Indian Navy has boosted its fleet with the commissioning of a multi-role stealth missile frigate, INS Tushil, from Russia. A STEALTH POWERHOUSE Commissioned at the Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad, Russia, by defence minister Rajnath Singh, INS Tushil is the first of two advanced Talwar-class frigates under a $2.5 billion agreement signed in 2018. INS Tushil, the seventh in the series, is the first of the two upgraded additional follow-on ships, the contract for which was signed in October 2016 between Russia’s JSC Rosoboronexport, the Indian Navy and the government of India. Rajnath Singh emphasised the collaborative prowess of Indian and Russian industries, noting the increasing “Made in India” content in ships like INS Tushil as a testament to the nations’ strategic partnership.
