What comes next for Senators ownership? A look at possible scenarios for the team’s future in Ottawa
New York TimesFor as long as he owned the Ottawa Senators, Eugene Melnyk never cared about the value of his franchise. When the Senators announced Crowe would be returning on Feb. 1, they said she would oversee the “long-term financial planning, budgeting and reporting” for the hockey club. In a March 4, 2020 release announcing the sudden departure of Jim Little, the club wrote, “The Board of Directors of the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club today announced that Jim Little has been released from his duties as Chief Executive Officer.” The board members are not listed anywhere on the Senators website or the club’s official media guide. Would the new owners of the Ottawa Senators also “inherit” this case along with the hockey club? Its core business is to manage three ‘Sensplex’ recreational facilities in the Ottawa area.” In other words, the Ottawa Senators hockey club is technically not caught up in this mess, as it operates under the name of Capital Sports & Entertainment, as opposed to Capital Sports Management, which handles a lot of the non-Senators aspects of the business.
