Nallaganakothapalli farmers slam land acquisition notification for SIPCOT in Shoolagiri

Members of the Tamizhaga Vivasayigal Paadhukaapu Sangam took out a protest march slamming the notification for acquisition of agricultural lands for SIPCOT at Nallaganakothapalli in Shoolagiri on Wednesday. The farmers’ association demanded stopping the land acquisition process and release of lands of farmers from the acquisition protocols. Citing the revenue notification for agriculture lands, the association’ co-ordinator Esan Murugasamy told the media farmers have objected to any proposed acquisition of lands since the first announcement made in 2015. According to the protesters, on the one hand, canal was constructed for irrigation from Kelvarapalli dam and on the other hand, lands were being “forcibly acquired” for SIPCOT, despite the farmers’ protests.
