Kerala CM calls for swift, accessible judicial system

The Hindu

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that judicial institutions should be places that ensure justice at the earliest and provide justice to the common man. Mr. Vijayan expressed concerns about delays in the judicial process, saying that endless delays could cause the common man to lose faith in the system. He urged collective efforts to expedite judicial processes, addressing systemic challenges like frequent adjournments and judge shortages, while advocating for modern technology and innovative approaches to reduce the backlog. The Chief Minister highlighted that welfare measures for lawyers have been enhanced, with the retirement fund increasing to ₹10 lakh, medical assistance rising from ₹5,000 to ₹1 lakh, and stipends introduced for newly enrolled advocates. The new ₹57 crore court complex, funded by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board, honours Thalassery’s 200-year-old judicial legacy.
