Opposition boycotts customary tea party ahead of Assembly session in Nagpur
The Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi on Sunday boycotted the customary tea party hosted on the eve of the Maharashtra legislature’s winter session, citing farmers’ distress, rising unemployment, price hikes, and the recent murder of a sarpanch in Beed district. The Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Ambadas Danve labelled the government’s decision to hold the winter session for only six days as a “drama”, claiming it was insufficient to address the pressing concerns of the State. Yet, this government seems indifferent,” Mr. Wadettiwar said, reiterating the MVA’s call for discussions on farm loan waivers, crop insurance, and rising debt. Congress state chief Nana Patole demanded a ₹3 lakh loan waiver for farmers and an increase in monthly financial assistance for women under the ‘Ladki Bahin’ scheme from ₹1,500 to ₹2,100.
