Samsung may stop manufacturing flagship phones like Galaxy S9 and Note 9 in India
India TodaySamsung could stop local manufacturing of flagship phones like the Galaxy S9 and Note 9 in India unless the government delays its Make In India plan to locally manufacture components such as display and touch panels. Samsung, however, is not ready to start local manufacturing of its display panel in India so soon, which is why the company says it will have to stop manufacturing its 2018 flagship phones in the country, according to Economic Times' report. Samsung has already stopped making TVs in India since last quarter due to the 5 per cent duty on open cell LED panels and instead imports finished sets from Vietnam. For the time being, Samsung may use a similar strategy with its flagship phones as well and may import it from low-cost manufacturing economies like Vietnam.
