The tax return data filed in financial year 2022-23 showed that Maharashtra yet again topped the list of states to have filed the highest income tax returns at 1.98 crore. The total number of ITRs filed this time stood at over 7.78 crore, a significant increase compared to previous FY when 7.14 crore ITRs were filed. Rajasthan, West Bengal, Karnataka, Delhi and Andhra Pradesh also made it among top ten states to have filed most number of ITRs. List of states to have filed most number of ITRs: State Filing Count Maharashtra 1.98 crore Uttar Pradesh 75.72 lakh Gujarat 75.62 lakh Rajasthan 50.88 lakh West Bengal 47.93 lakh Tamil Nadu 47.91 lakh Karnataka 42.82 lakh Andhra Pradesh 40.09 lakh Delhi 39.99 lakh The data also showed a nearly double increase in the number of individuals who reported over ₹one crore annual income this time.
