18 sheep killed by stray dogs, farmers stage road block in Erode

The Hindu

Eighteen sheep were killed by stray dogs near Chennimalai, prompting farmers to stage a road blockade on Thursday. Farmers from the right bank of the Noyyal River in the nearby Tiruppur district, who had also lost goats to stray dog attacks, joined the protest. Farmers of villages in Chennimalai and Kangayam, the contiguous blocks in Erode and Tiruppur districts respectively, continued their protest late into the night along Kangayam Road on Thursday demanding compensation for the livestock killed by wandering dogs. The immediate provocation was the almost simultaneous killing of three goats by wandering dogs at Kovilpalayam in Sivanmalai Panchayat in Tiruppur district, and the death caused to 20 goats at the farm in Chennimalai block.
