Video Room: How the Canucks concede scoring chances and why their point coverage needs to improve

New York Times

A lot of the focus in hockey is directed towards the offensive side of the game and how scoring is generated. With all five players committed so low, the team can’t allow that pass to get back to the point when considering the advantageous position they started in. As the puck battle with Gudbranson emerges though, Goldobin’s lost that gap and now Kapanen has the space to send a puck back to the point with four defenders committed down low. It’s a fairly common strategy to winning the puck back but it requires the weak side players to be diligent of defencemen that like to pinch and take advantage of all the open space. Allowing point players to make diagonal feeds to the slot Once the pass is made back the point, the Canucks have a tendency to allow the player to make a diagonal feed to a weak side player in the slot and it’s cost the team prime chances and a couple of goals within the last week.
