Origin Energy announces 6.5 per cent price hike for SA customers, blames coal, gas supply issues

Power company Origin Energy has followed in AGL's footsteps, announcing it will increase its electricity and gas charges for South Australian customers from July 1. Yesterday AGL revealed its prices would rise by about 10 per cent for South Australian customers, working out to be about $230 extra per year. "Changes to the electricity generation mix in South Australia has had an impact on the wholesale cost of energy, which in turn flow through to Origin's retail prices," a spokesperson for the company said. SA Government's policies to blame for price rises: Opposition Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis yesterday told South Australians to shop around for a new energy provider following AGL's announcement.
