Pune family claims honour killing, court orders senior cop to oversee probe

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday directed the senior police official in Pune, Maharashtra, to oversee the investigation into the murder of Vikram Gaikwad. The court issued this directive while hearing a plea from deceased Vikram Gaikwad's family, who alleged that the local police were not conducting a proper investigation and claimed it was a case of honour killing. Advocate Amit Katarnaware, representing the petitioner, informed the court that Vikram Gaikwad, a 30-year-old man from a scheduled caste community, was found dead with stab wounds on February 8, 2025. Hiwrale assured the court that the senior police official was already supervising the case and that an internal Special Investigation Team had been formed to handle the investigation.
