Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes on Thursday was sentenced by Judge Amit Mehta to 18 years in prison for his role in plotting the Capitol insurrection on January 6th, 2021. Prosecutors had urged a 25-year prison sentence for Rhodes, who was found guilty last year of seditious conspiracy for plotting with his fellow Oath Keepers to breach the Capitol in an attempt to block the certification of President Joe Biden's election win. Specifically, prosecutors cited the "scope and scale of Rhodes’ conduct in calling for and conspiring to perpetrate violence against the U.S. government to change the results of a presidential election and retaliate against Congress for certifying those results" warrants getting thrown in jail for more than two decades.
