Why Forest Service Chief Randy Moore has hope for America’s forests

LA Times

When Randy Moore became chief of the Forest Service seven weeks ago, he took over an agency reeling from one of the worst wildfire seasons in history. “What we’re seeing now should be a call to action.” Forest Service Chief Randy Moore You are the first Black person to lead the Forest Service. How do you square the need for more prescribed burning with the fact that the Forest Service doesn’t have enough money or trained employees? We also are offering COVID tests, and at some of our locations, we’ve started pilots where we’re working with the local health department to actually give vaccinations at some of our fire camps. I’m hopeful because I know that while there’s a lot of attention on fire suppression, there seems to be gathering steam around forest treatment.
