Kaala is not just about Rajinikanth. Women empowerment is at its core

Of late, film critics, analysts and feminists have been putting forth that women characters are not being treated with dignity on screen. And seeing director Pa Ranjith do it in superstar Rajinikanth-starrer Kaala is a welcoming change that every director needs to adopt. Apart from Rajinikanth and Nana Patekar, it is the characterisation of the three women in the film, played by Eswari Rao, Huma Qureshi and Anjali Patil, that define what Kaala is all about. Kaala makes it clear that Selvi is his life and wouldn't want to change anything about it upon her arrival. HUMA QURESHI: She plays Zareena, Kaala's ex-fiance, who comes back to her hometown to work for its betterment.
