Montreal via Kloten: Inside life on David Reinbacher’s unusual path to the NHL
New York TimesKLOTEN, Switzerland — Walking up to Swiss Life Arena, the building’s newness hits you quickly. “He told me that I should enjoy every single moment when I’m there and enjoy my development and don’t think too much,” Reinbacher said. “It’s been a bit of a roller coaster for him,” said Kloten coach and general manager Larry Mitchell, who fired his original coach about six weeks into Reinbacher’s return after the team won only seven of its first 23 games. “That’s what I need to have success — defend, play simple,” Reinbacher said. “Six is a nine turned over, and my dad wore nine,” he said, “and the four is for my brother; he wears 44.” Reinbacher’s father, Harald, drove him to Kloten and back from Lustenau just about every day for a year, 100 kilometers each way, often working in the rink as his son practiced.
