The Fed is getting ready to raise interest rates

New York CNN Business — The Federal Reserve is getting ready to raise interest rates, the central bank said in its monetary policy update Wednesday. “With inflation well above 2% and a strong labor market, the Committee expects it will soon be appropriate to raise the target range for the federal funds rate,” the Fed statement read. “Like most forecasters we continue to expect inflation to decline over the course of the year,” said Fed Chairman Jerome Powell during Wednesday’s press conference. “We expect that the FOMC will announce at the September policy meeting that it will begin balance sheet reduction in the fourth quarter,” said Wells Fargo chief economist Jay Bryson.
