The 63rd Kerala State School Arts Festival saw a spectacular display of folk music at the open-air auditorium of the Poojappura Cultural Centre, where the air vibrated with the sound of drums and the resonating rhythm of traditional percussion instruments. Their songs, deeply rooted in Kerala’s varied cultural heritage, took the audience on a journey through the State’s diverse landscapes. The themes of the songs ranged from harvest celebrations and Mahabharatha stories to rituals and prayers for deities, offering a glimpse into the spiritual and cultural fabric of Kerala’s indigenous communities. Gireesh Ambra, folk artist and lyricist, underscored the positive influence of tribal dance events in the festival, urging students to maintain a balance in their use of instruments.
