To make roster room at the deadline for those players who needed to be on it for one day, the Broncos released four vested veterans — defensive lineman Mike Purcell, defensive back Fabian Moreau, offensive lineman Quinn Bailey and wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey — with the expectation that at least three of them would be re-signed Wednesday after other players are moved to IR. It was at that moment, Payton said, he knew McLaughlin would be starting the season “on our team or someone else’s if we chose not to.” The Broncos officially begin OTAs today. “I don’t think it’s Adkins versus Albert O,” Paton said when asked why the Broncos ultimately decided to move on from Okwuegbunam, a player the team selected in the fourth round of the 2020 draft.
