10 people lose vision in botched up eye camp in Mathura
The HinduAt least 10 people have reportedly lost their eyesight following botched up cataract operations that were conducted at an eye camp organised by an NGO in Mathura in November 2014. It is also alleged that the NGO, Banke Bihari Sewa Sansthan, also took Rs.5000 from each person on the pretext of putting better eye lenses and medicines. “An FIR has been registered by one Malkhan of Habibpur in Mathura on behalf of three persons who have lost their eyesight at a camp held by Banke Bihari Sewa Sansthan on November 22, 2014,” a senior police official said. Though preliminary report said three persons lost their eyesight and eight others were adversely affected, the police and district health officials would be meeting all those who were operated at the camp to know the full truth, he added.
