The recent University Grants Commission’s draft regulations on who can occupy the position of a University Vice-Chancellor and choose the V-C have left teachers miffed. The regulations state that a person “at a senior level in industry, public administration, public policy and/or public sector undertakings, with a proven track record of significant academic or scholarly contributions, shall be eligible to be appointed as Vice-Chancellor.”. Vasagam, who was director of the advanced technology and planning at the Indian Space Research Organisation, was appointed as V-C. M.
