Ajit Pawar on Aurangzeb row: Stop revisiting issues dividing our society
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has called for restraint amid the ongoing controversy over Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, cautioning against raising divisive issues. When asked to comment on the row, Ajit Pawar said that there was a need to stop revisiting issues that divide society. Responding to the controversy, Pawar said that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj established Hindavi Swarajya by uniting people across castes and religions, including Muslims, and that unnecessary controversies should not be used to create divisions in society. Earlier this month, Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi stirred controversy by claiming that the film 'Chhaava', based on Chhatrapati Sambhaji's battle with Aurangzeb, depicted history inaccurately and that Aurangzeb was a "good administrator".
