Fact Check: This Hashim Amla fasting story being used to criticise Shami is NOT TRUE
India TodayIndian pacer Mohammed Shami has faced criticism from a Muslim cleric for not observing a fast during the holy month of Ramadan. A user wrote, “Hashim Amla scored a triple century while fasting, but Mohammad Shami needed water after the first over List soms are calling him a 'national hero'. India Today Fact Check found that Amla himself had said that he was not fasting when he scored 311 runs against England. In an article published on Cricbuzz, Holme wrote, “And as it was Ramadan, Amla did not drink any water out on the field - although he was not fasting on match days, he kept his consumption to the confines of the dressing room out of respect for his fellow Muslims who were.” A report by SA Cricketmag has also mentioned that Amla was not fasting when he scored the triple century against England in the 2012 test match. It is thus clear that users are falsely claiming that Amla was fasting during his 300* innings, just to criticise Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami.
