North Queensland women's services brace for COVID-19 funding cut-off amid domestic violence crisis

For months, Townsville women's services, particularly those assisting victims of domestic and family violence, have been at breaking point. Pressure on staff North Queensland Women's Legal Service director Anne Lewis said services would 'stretch themselves to breaking point' rather than turn women away. North Queensland Women's Legal Service director Anne Lewis says staff are stretching themselves to "breaking point". "Women in the support services and women's legal service find it in their heart to stretch to make sure that that woman is safe, and to make sure that she's got help," Ms Lewis said. The North Queensland Domestic Violence Resource Service, Townsville Women's Centre and North Queensland Women's Legal Service each said they took a proactive approach to address vicarious trauma and staff wellbeing.
